Hi my dear friends!
These past few days have been busy busy busy and so finally today I think I've got a handle on this new 5:00am morning working/riding routine. However I must say I decided I better get into this whole morning coffee thing if I want to make it home at night with my eyes still open ;)
I start my day off nice and early before the sun rises, leaving the waves crashing behind me as I head up to the barn, which is about 30 minutes from our house to feed the horses and clean the stalls before heading into work as the sun begins to rise. I'm at work just after 7am and it has been going really great. Everyone has been so welcoming, really supportive of my riding and excited to have me on board so it feels almost like a second family there.
I'm off work around 2 in order to give me enough time to get both horses ridden before dark because the trail ride to the ring is great in the day light but not so much in the dark. By the time I finish up with my two its about 6:30-7 and I head home to dinner.
Karen was able to come out the end of last week and was a huge help in getting me set off in the right direction with both horses and then this week I started my weekly lessons with the dressage trainer at El Campeon. She is going to work out so great. It's simple things she said that all of a sudden made a lot of sense. You always hear you need to have an independant seat, but she said have an independant hand. When you think of it that way you ride more from the seat because it makes you focus on having a quieter hand and in order to do that you need your seat and legs supporting. She picked up on Stentano right away. "He's like the boy at school that pretends to be so good when the teacher is looking but as soon as she turns away is the first to stir up trouble." He's a tricky boy to put your finger on! I 'm really excited to see how this all works out :)
I have decided to enter the Burbank CDI (qualifies for the North Americans) at the end of February with Stentano and I will enter one or two of the national classes with Rif to get a feel for what she is like at shows before riding in front of a panel of judges with her.
Dad is staying out here for the weekend and mom and April are flying out tomorrow morning so I'm really excited to see them! Hopefully I can get some more pictures up this weekend!
I hope you are all doing well back home and staying warm enough. Believe it or not it has been hovering around the freezing level overnight here where the barn is because it's higher up and has been reaching about 15 C during the day. It's awful that I catch myself thinking it's a bit chilly after last weeks weather but I keep telling myself it's not cold, it's not cold.. everyone at home is freezing, literally!
Thank you for the continued support and I love hearing from you guys so stay in touch :)
